We left it in the box (in the house, out of hot or cold temps) until recently not having the battery die once. We tried to plug it in and charge it and it just beeps and beeps. you shouldnt have bought it." nice, black and decker, nice. We bought the simple start about 3 years ago. Apparently we are not the only ones. We thought maybe it didnt charge. This is one of the biggest wastes of money ever.
So we charged it, or so we thought. "we're sorry, we just cant help. and we cant return it after 3 years. Our car battery was dead today. They dont seem to get the fact that it just doesnt work and that its not going to work even if i talk nice to it and unplug/plug it in 5000 different ways.
We figured it would be a good thing to have. black and decker customer service is NO help at all. it just beeps endlessly. Our son was born on Halloween and with it being so cold and the car getting up in age we figured it might be a good idea to keep it charged and put it in the car when we leave. So we went to use it and of course it doesnt work.
My problem with this thing is that it mysteriously won't charge. However, it won't charge and I tried everything in the instruction manual.
Then I read the label on the back: "Made in China". it is useless.
Fortunately, I never had to use this thing to actually start my Jeep. It needs the power in order to make the incessant shrieking beeps that it likes to make.
explains everything. Given the other reviews, it looks like I would still be stuck in the middle of nowhere.
Oh, it will connect to both a 120-volt and a 12-volt power supply.
This product saved me a headache. I had been deployed for four months and the person responsible for my house and car was not doing what I had asked them to please do. start my car at least once a week so I came home to a dead battery on leave.
Needed it last month and discovered that it will no longer go into the charging mode. It worked a couple of times. With the third use, however, it failed to charge my car's battery enough to get it started. I've needed this device a few times. Checked the warranty, and the two years ran out in December of 2008, so at two years and three months after only three previous uses, it won't charge up.The two times it did work, it took 15-20 minutes to get the car battery charged before I could try starting it.I'm replacing it with a rechargeable booster unit that I can clamp to the battery posts and get it started at once, not another one of these. So, from time to time, I let too much time go by between uses of the car. I live in the City and I don't commute in my car due to high parking prices in the Financial District. I bought one of these handy-dandy devices after I saw it on Good Morning America around Christmas of 2006.
Useless piece of junk. Finally threw it away. We never could get it to work.
